Search Team Update

The Sun River search team is fully engaged with the Agora Search Group in our work toward recommending the next Senior Pastor to the Elder Board. From various interested candidates over the past several weeks, Agora has presented four individuals, their brief personal biographies and two of their sermon samples to initially determine our alignment and whether we have further mutual interest to pursue. In turn, the search team has asked Agora to move to the next level of in-depth conversation with two of these individuals. We anticipate several other candidates moving through this stage of the process as well, as we continue narrowing into a group of completely profiled individuals (in which Andy Matzke has agreed to be included) before moving to a final stage where we expect two or three candidates to emerge from which the team will make its recommendation to the board. Please continue to pray for the Lord to direct the team and the pastor candidates as they spend a significant amount of time evaluating, discussing and making decisions regarding the future leadership of Sun River Church.

Transition Team Update

During this time of transition, we as an elder board want to make every effort to communicate often, clearly, and in a way that honors those who have faithfully served at Sun River Church. Paul and Karen Edwards have both ended their 19 years of shepherding and loving us as the body of Christ and our community. We had the opportunity to honor them both through a service and reception on February 10, and a special lunch for Karen with her ministry to moms where she has loved and encouraged mothers to know who Jesus is and what it means to be a Christian wife and mother. Paul and Karen have served us well, and we are praying that the Lord will continue to bless them and give them many years of fruitful ministry in the days to come.

Patty Dacy and Sherry Bowers have both decided to retire from Sun River Church and their roles of administration and information technology. Both have been faithful and used their gifts to further God’s kingdom by taking care of endless tasks and solving all the daily issues that arise within a church ministry. We are so thankful for them and all the years they have served.

Over the past several months, we have prayerfully considered how we can be better stewards of resources God has given to Sun River Church during this time of transition. Consequently, we have needed to restructure staffing to meet the current needs of our congregation. The Board had to make a difficult decision to end the full-time facility maintenance position. Vladimir Semenyuk has been incredibly faithful for twenty years taking care of and maintaining our facilities with his unique ability to fix anything and always being joyful in the process. Please note, this decision had nothing to do with Vladimir’s performance in any way. This need for the church to restructure has coincided with an opportunity for Vladimir to join his sons’ full time in a business he has been involved with part-time for the past sixteen years.

We are so grateful for every season that God brings in the life of our church. We have been blessed by the Lord for these faithful friends he has allowed us to serve alongside, and we are asking the Lord to continue to bless them in the future.
