It is for Freedom
Main Point: We experience Christian freedom as beloved sinners when we hope, trust, and love through the power of the Spirit.
Christian freedom begins by recognizing that we are failures, and we are loved (1-2)
Christian freedom is fueled by the hope of who we can become through Christ (5)
Christian freedom is fueled by a faith that trusts that the life God calls us to is for our good (5)
Christian freedom is fueled by the Holy Spirit who lifts our vision (5)
C.S. Lewis ““We are half-hearted creatures, fooling about with drink and sex and ambition when infinite joy is offered us, like an ignorant child who wants to go on making mud pies in a slum because he cannot imagine what is meant by the offer of a holiday at the sea. We are far too easily pleased”
Christian freedom isn’t the license to do what you want; it’s found in wanting what is truly worth doing
Christian freedom is evident in a faith that expresses itself through love (6)
Dante Alighieri, “Love must be the seed of every virtue growing in you, And every deed that merits punishment.”
When our hearts are properly oriented toward the love of God we are free to:
oLove others without restraint
oMake mistakes
oExtend grace
We will never fully attain Christian freedom in this life (5)
