Watch a short intro video of Chris Ireland explaining the passage for today.

We have a tendency to think that quarrels we have with other people only come from us wanting something different than they want. But James explains that the root of external conflict is actually a result of an internal conflict within ourselves (v1). How have you experienced the war of passions within your own heart?

James says that when people don't get what they want, they quarrel and fight (v2). What is your typical response (thought, feeling and action) when you don't get what you want?

James calls people out by saying that 'getting what they want' has become a theme of their prayers (v3). How often are your prayers about getting what you want instead of asking for what God wants?
